The mission of the Manchester City School District is to educate each
student in a safe, supportive, Pre K-9 school environment that promotes
self-discipline, motivation, and excellence in learning. The System has
been recognized for its high student achievement in the Tennessee
Department of Education’s State Report Card. Manchester City Schools has
earned a status of “Good Standing” by having met all federal benchmarks
established by No Child Left Behind in reading/language arts, math,
percent of students tested, and attendance rate. These benchmarks were
met for all subgroups at each of Manchester’s three SACS accredited
schools: College Street Elementary, Westwood Elementary, and Westwood
Junior High. One hundred percent of the System’s teachers have achieved
“highly qualified” status.
College Street Elementary, located at 405 College Street, is a Pre K-6
school. Some of its many hallmarks include strong community/parent
involvement, exemplary student achievement, academic and athletic
extracurricular activities, and a student friendly environment.
Westwood Elementary, located at 912 Oakdale Street, has been recognized
as a National Title I Distinguished School. In addition to its
close-knit school community, this Pre K-6 school has demonstrated high
student achievement, as well as, promoting academic and athletic
extracurricular activities.
Westwood Junior High, located at 505 Taylor Street, offers a safe,
student-centered school community for grades 7-9. A strong academic core
curriculum is offered, including Honors classes in Geometry, Algebra I,
English I, Physical Science, World History, Spanish I, and Spanish II.
Academic and athletic extracurricular activities are available.
Manchester City Schools works hard to make a difference in our schools,
community, state, and nation through our greatest asset—our children.
